Real-time telehealth compliance

Your license covers where you are. It doesn’t cover where your patient is.

TeleVerify maps your practice coverage across all 50 states, verifies your patient’s location in real time every session, and generates audit-ready compliance documentation — automatically.

The problem

Most telehealth providers are unknowingly out of compliance.

When you see a patient via telehealth, the patient’s physical location at the time of the session — not yours — determines where care is delivered and which state’s laws apply. If your patient is in a state where you aren’t licensed, enrolled in a compact, or registered to practice, that session is a regulatory violation. And here’s the part most providers miss: a patient whose home address is in Texas might be calling from a hotel room in New Jersey. You need to know where they are right now — not where their chart says they live.

Board inquiry

Practicing in a state where you’re not authorized can trigger a complaint to your licensing board — even if the patient never complains.

Claim denial

Insurers may deny or claw back reimbursement for sessions where the provider wasn’t licensed in the patient’s state. A signed, timestamped record gives you a clear answer if a claim is reviewed.

Coverage gap

Your malpractice policy may not cover you in a state where you weren’t authorized to practice — the one time it matters most.

The vast majority of states don’t recognize an established patient relationship as an exception to licensure requirements. If your patient moves, you may not be able to keep treating them — even if you’ve been their provider for years.

Why now?

During COVID, most states waived cross-state telehealth licensing requirements. Providers got used to seeing patients anywhere. Those waivers have expired. The OIG’s 2025 work plan explicitly targets telehealth compliance. CMS has tripled penalty rates. Malpractice insurers are starting to flag location documentation as a coverage condition. The grace period is over — and most providers haven’t caught up.

What makes this so complicated?

50 states, 11 interstate compacts, 14 state-specific registration programs, emergency exceptions that vary by jurisdiction, established-patient rules that only some states recognize, prescribing restrictions that differ from practice restrictions. The regulatory framework is a patchwork — and it changes constantly.

The solution

Three steps. Zero friction.

Real-time location verification for every telehealth session — working in the background so providers can focus entirely on patient care.

01

Start a session

Click Start Session in TeleVerify and share the session link with your patient via session chat (or automatic text if a phone session).

02

Patient verifies in one click

Your patient clicks a link and TeleVerify instantly checks their location using GPS and IP address. Takes seconds — no app download required.

03

Compliance documented

Compliant or Non-Compliant result provided instantly with patient location and supporting methodology for the result. You can always choose to proceed with a session at your discretion, but do so with full awareness.

Built for providers, not regulators.

Your compliance data is private — never shared with licensing boards, insurers, or anyone else. And if TeleVerify flags a session, you're never blocked: override any check in one click and add a note. TeleVerify gives you the information; what you do with it is always your decision.

Native integrations for the most popular platforms — and works with any telehealth workflow

Real-Time Location Verification

Patients travel. A patient whose records say Texas may be calling from Ohio — and that changes everything about your compliance exposure. TeleVerify confirms patient location during the live session using a multi-layer approach that works on any device — phone, tablet, or desktop — so the provider sees the verified location and the resulting compliance status in real time.

  • GPS — Highest accuracy. Works on mobile and desktop browsers that support location services.
  • IP geolocation — Automatic fallback when GPS is unavailable, with VPN and proxy detection built in.
  • Patient attestation — If neither signal is available, the patient confirms their state with a clear compliance disclosure.
  • Confidence scoring — Every verification gets a confidence level so you can see exactly how the location was determined.

No app download required. The patient clicks a link, verification happens in seconds, and the result is logged with the session record.

What providers and compliance teams are saying.

“I always asked patients to confirm their state at the start of each session — between that and my PSYPACT enrollment, I thought I was covered. In our first month with TeleVerify, four sessions came back flagged for a state I’m not licensed in. Two of those patients had told me they were home. I had no idea I was carrying that kind of exposure.”

SR
Dr. Sarah R.Licensed Psychologist, Multi-State Practice

“We trained every provider to ask ‘where are you today?’ at the start of each session. Felt rigorous. Then we ran TeleVerify across our 35 providers and within a month found nine of them had at least one session where the verified location didn’t match what the patient said. Asking isn’t the same as knowing.”

MT
Michelle T.Practice Manager, Regional Behavioral Health Group

“When our malpractice carrier asked how we document patient location, ‘we ask the patient’ wasn’t the answer they wanted. TeleVerify gave them GPS-confirmed location plus a signed, timestamped record for every session. The conversation ended there — and our renewal went through without a follow-up call.”

Do you know your compliance risk exposure?

Eleven compacts, 14 state programs, 39 states that don’t recognize established-patient relationships, and rules that change every quarter. The regulatory complexity alone creates risk — and CMS fines start at $11,665 per unauthorized session. Calculate your exposure in 60 seconds.

Forensic defensibility

Cryptographically signed compliance packets.

Every compliance determination is signed with Ed25519 and written to a tamper-evident, SHA-256 hash-chained audit log. Real-time OIG exclusion screening runs inline on every check. Insurers, state boards, and plaintiff’s counsel can independently verify any TeleVerify record — no account, no API key, no TeleVerify access required. This is the difference between an audit trail and an audit defense.
